Research

“What we find changes who we become.”
― Peter Morville

Through collaborative research CEMHRI works to prevent mental and neurological illnesses, aid the quick recognition and diagnosis of those suffering from mental and neurological illnesses, advocate for prompt evidence-based treatment for mental and neurological disorders, improve the physical health of persons with severe mental and neurological illnesses, lower the disabilities associated with mental and neurological disorders in the society and improve the rate of recovery.

We also use collaborative research to help improve the quality of life of persons with mental and neurological illnesses and reduce the stigma of mental and neurological illnesses in the community. CEMHRI is currently involved in the Lagos state Mental Health Survey currently running in all the divisions of Lagos State Nigeria.

Policy Development

“We have to abandon the conceit that isolated personal actions are going to solve this crisis. Our policies have to shift.”
― Al Gore

We work to develop evidence-based mental health policies across the country to help every Nigerian enjoy good mental health, as well as experience better and faster recovery from mental illness. We thus inform and influence policies at national, state and local government levels.

Our Policy developments go hand-in-hand with our research, campaigns and service development activities which enable us to respond promptly to consultation documents on a range of issues that impact on mental health services and people with mental health problems.

We also produce our own policy briefings on key mental health issues for ministries, civil servants, opinion-formers and members of the public. We therefore aim to work closely with other voluntary sector organisations and professional bodies to maximise the impact of our policy work.

SERVICES

Campaign & Advocacy

“Without free speech, no search for truth is possible…no discovery of truth is useful.”
– Charles Bradlaugh

Through our campaigns, we raise awareness of issues affecting the nation’s well-being and distribute materials on how people can better manage their mental health we also advocate for prompt evidence-based treatment for mental and neurological disorders.

We use our research and evidence to produce high-quality information that helps people survive, recover from and prevent mental health problems as well as reduce the stigma associated with them. We aim to reach millions of Nigerians regularly through the media and via events, information booklets and online resources.
